DA/CA Client Tracing

Posted on February 11, 2010 by Rob Wilcox
Wow, I never thought I would write a blog covering some DA/CA client stuff !!   Anyway, one thing that you can do, is enable tracing on the client.  This might help with things like connection issues and the like.  I had to do that recently, and it took me a while to find out how to turn on tracing.  So here is how to do it :
Locate the file : AcceleratorClient.Exe.Config
Open it in Notepad
Find these lines :
<add key="TraceApplicationController" value="Brief" />
<add key="TraceDetailClient" value="Brief" />
— they will be near the bottom of the file
Change them to :
<add key="TraceApplicationController" value="Verbose" />
<add key="TraceDetailClient" value="Verbose" />
Save and close the config file.
Launch the client
You will now get a file called CustomTraceFile_nn.txt in :-
C:Documents and Settings<username>Local SettingsApplication DataSymantec CorporationEnterprise Vault AcceleratorsDiscovery_ClientLogs
nn is just a random number.
This file just keeps getting written to, it’s different than the EV Outlook Add-in where you get a new file per Outlook session, if you want a “clean” file, just delete the current one with the DA/CA client closed, and next time you open the client you will get a new file.
Hope that helps,
