A cool little app with the Consumer Preview comes in the form of the Photo App.  It will show you photos from a variety of sources, both on your local machine, and on your ‘remote’ locations, like SkyDrive, Flickr, and Facebook.  Flickr and Facebook need setting up, local and SkyDrive were there for me when I first launched the app.

When looking at pictures themselves you can set the picture to be the one which appears on the tile in your start screen, and you can also set the picture to be your lock screen, ie the screen when you login.  That second option is pretty cool if you ask me! Here is the app tile:

If you go in to the photo app, and bring up the settings charm, then you can ‘shuffle’ the tile photo, which is even more cool.  Annoyingly though, that’s not turned on by default.  Also annoying that at the moment I can’t get it to work, it just shows one photo on the app tile. One slightly disappointing issue is that you can’t use the Share charm against Flickr or SkyDrive photo albums (yet at least). Update: the shuffling started to work.. but…  only of the photo library, not Flickr or SkyDrive.

Update: Looks like it is meant to be like that : http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-winapps/can-i-choose-the-photos-to-appear-on-live-tile/a765e8e6-e6f0-4861-9310-6bde2298931b
