As the famous song lyric from U2 says..  I still haven’t found what I’m looking for…. Operating System-wise.  Sure I use Windows 7; have done since well before it came out, and yes I like it.  My main laptop has a corporate image on it (takes about a week and a half to boot, but is pretty zippy afterwards).

ImageSure I *like* Windows 8, I’ve been using that about 1/3 of the time since October 2011.  I haven’t experienced the full touch interface though — I look forward to that.

I’ve also been using an OSX Lion virtual machine, which I like.. but haven’t used it more than about 1/4 of the time.

I real mish-mash!

I *think* I want a MacBook Pro, or an iMac … but do I?  They are mega expensive, and, on top of that can I get everything done that I now do on my current Operating Systems?

Well, I tried the virtual machine route (modified VMWare Workstation), but the performance isn’t ‘quite’ there, even on a desktop class machine (it’s very close.. but not quite).  That was with Snow Leopard first of all and lately with Lion.

So at the weekend I went the hackintosh route, and installed (eventually after a whole day of playing around) the iatkos L2 OSX image.  It works a TREAT.  I’ve installed a few apps, and ordered a wireless dongle (there are no kext’s for the Core i5 Centrino wireless incarnations).  Once the wireless dongle arrives I intend to use the laptop 100% of the time, if possible, for a week.  Hopefully, I’ll know for sure whether I *really* want a MacBook Pro (or an iMac).
