Of late I’ve been doing a lot of slicing and dicing in Excel of IIS logs.  I end up fiiltering, sorting and all sorts..  but what I couldn’t fathom out is when I’d filtered my results how many of them I’d got.  A simple COUNT on the number of rows always returned however many rows were in the entire spreadsheet.. and that’s not what I want.

I found that you have to do :-

=SUBTOTAL (2,A1:A250000)

Bingo, it’s the right results !
