Vault Cache in Enterprise Vault 8 and above uses the BITS protocol to download content for the cache.  In some environments people may wish to throttle this traffic.  To be honest it’s a bandwidth and utilisation aware protocol, so why people want to do this is beyond me.. but some people do.

The call sometimes comes to Support that Vault Cache downloads appear to be incredibly slow… and the culprit in some cases is this bandwidth limiting.  You do it as follows :

And then you need to “push” that Group Policy change to the client machines.

I had this set accidentally on one of my environments and wondered for a long time why it was taking so long to download a 100 Mb Vault Cache file!
